Frederick Stoddard

Fred Stoddard is one of the leading legume scientists in northern Europe. He focuses on faba bean and has worked on many aspects including pollination, agronomy, breeding, genetics, environmental impact, grain quality and stress responses. He worked for his PhD at the Plant Breeding Institute, Cambridge (PBI) with faba bean breeder David Bond, then spent 15 years in Australia working on faba bean, wheat and some other crops. Since moving to Finland in 2005, he has added narrow-leafed lupin, lentil and pea to his legume research portfolio. He has held grants from national bodies in Australia and Finland, and has participated in many European research consortia on legumes and sustainable agriculture.
