Prof. Petr Smýkal, Ph.D.
Studied plant biotechnology at the University of Agriculture and the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Charles University in Prague (1994) and completed doctoral studies at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Charles University in Prague (1999). Being full professor at Department of Botany, Faculty of Sciences, Palacky University, Czechia.
Interested in the domestication and genetic diversity of leguminous crops. Using the wild pea model, to clarify the genetic basis of two main domestication traits: removal of seed dormancy and pod dehiscence. The wild progenitors of cultivated peas, lentil and chickpea are also used to expand the genetic diversity of cultivated crops. Main research focus now is on legume seed coat development.
He has published 119 original scientific works of which 84 publications in international scientific journals with an impact factor (h index 27).
